Big Appetites. Warm Meals.

The lunchbox that does it all.

Designed for hearty eaters and busy school days, the Hot N Cold Hero Box 2.0 is Australia's first stainless steel lunchbox with an integrated (removable) insulated food jar - so you can send hot noodles, warm soups, or chilled yoghurt and a fresh lunch, all in one box.

Coloured clasps for easy opening (and colour coding if you've got more than one child), this is the lunchbox that keeps up with your family's routine.

  • 1x 3-compartment stainless steel lunchbox (with non-removable leak-resistant silicon seal on the lid)
  • 1x 250ml insulated food jar (removable)
  • 1 x stainless steel snack container

  1. Warm stays warm. Cold stays cold. The double-walled insulated jar keeps food warm for up to 4-5 hours and cold for up to 6-7 hours (when placed inside the lunchbox and pre-heated - see FAQs below for more info). Its perfect for warm pastas, soups, or overnight oats.
  2. Pack without compromise. Three leak resistant compartments snack pot = lunch your way. Use the domed section for whole fruit or remove the food jar to maximise space.
  3. Easy to use, even for little hands. Two plastic clasps flip open easily from age 3-4+. Inside, the insulated jar has a flip-top handle and locks shut to prevent spills. No twisting of lids required.
  4. Safe, Sturdy and non-toxic: Crafted from premium 304 food-grade stainless steel and pure food grade silicone that is FDA and LFGB certified. It's the kind of quality that sees you through years of school lunches. The insulated food jar features a small amount of platic on the lid's exterior, with a silicone seal on the inside to ensure no plastic touches your child's food.
  5. Leak-resistant: Great for thick items like yoghurt, pasta or couscous. For thin liquids like dressing or tinned fruit in juice, we recommend the included snack pot or our dip pots.
  6. Built to last: Durable enough to hand down to younger siblings or cousins. Designed by a paediatric dietitian and made for years of use.

FAQs

Our insulated food jar uses advanced vacuum wall technology to keep your food at the right
temperature. Here are some tips for the best performance:

For Hot Foods:

1. Preheat the jar by filling it with boiling water for 10 minutes, then empty it.
2. Heat your food until piping hot (hotter than if you were serving it immediately).
3. Quickly transfer the hot food into the preheated jar and secure the lid.

For Cold Foods:
Pre-chill the jar by placing it in the freezer for 10 minutes or filling it with ice water for 10 minutes, then empty it.

Transfer your cold food into the pre-chilled jar and secure the lid.

Important Tips:

The jar works best with wet foods like soups, noodles in sauce, or saucy dishes. Fill it almost to the top to minimise air, which cools the food faster.

Avoid using the jar for solid foods like chicken nuggets or sandwiches as they cool very quickly and become soggy.

Don’t put the lunchbox in the fridge or next to an ice brick when using it for hot foods.

Performance:

Hot:

Keeps food warm for up to 4 hours (up to 5 hours in the lunchbox). Please note this is dependent on following the guidelines above.

Cold:

Keeps food cold for 6 hours (up to 7 hours in the lunchbox).

Consider if this is sufficient to meet the needs of your child

  1. Empty any leftover food from the lunch box and insulated food jar.
  2. Place the lunch box components in the dishwasher. The silicone seal on the Hot & Cold Hero Box lid is fixed and is not removable.
  3. For the insulated food jar, remove the silicone seal from the lid before every wash and wash the lid and seal separately. Both are dishwasher safe.
  4. After washing, completely drain the food jar lid. Move the handle between the open and locked positions several times and tip the lid at different angles to help release any water remaining around the moving spring mechanism.
  5. Leave the lid and silicone seal separate until both are completely dry. Do not replace the silicone seal while there is any moisture remaining in or around the lid.
  6. Once completely dry and ready to use, reattach the silicone seal by pressing it down and rolling it over the lid's inner rim.
  7. When not in use, store the food jar with the lid off and the silicone seal removed to allow airflow and prevent moisture from becoming trapped.

Tip:

Use fragrance-free dishwashing liquids or tablets to avoid leaving a taste on the silicone.

Yes, silicone can stain when exposed to highly coloured foods like pumpkin soup, watermelon, or
tomato. These stains usually fade over time.

Yes, the largest section of our Hero Box is (17.5 cm x 10.5 cm) fits a sandwich cut in half and stacked. Alternatively, if the food jar is removed this section is 12 cm x 11cm and will accomodate smaller sizes of bread or larger with the crusts cut off.

Store your products dry, with the lids off/open, to prevent any food smells from building up.

We've worked hard to create tough, hard wearing products but all products are susceptible to wear and tear. Scratches or dents may occur with use of our stainless steel lunch boxes.

We use the thickest available neoprene (4mm) for lunch bag manufacturing. Whilst we think we've made a great hard wearing wash and wear product, it's not indestructible. Neoprene will tear or rip if caught or pierced with sharp objects or rough surfaces. We will not issues refunds for torn products.

Our updated lunchbox now features two flip-open plastic coloured clasps attached to the lid. These clasps close downwards and provide a simple, easy-to-open mechanism, making the lunchbox suitable for young children aged 3 years and up. We recommend practicing opening and closing the clasps as well as the insulated food jar with your child before first use to ensure they can manage it confidently.

**Tip:** The insulated food jar has an easy locking mechanism but if the handle is pumped up and
down multiple times it may create a vacuum. If the lid becomes vacuum-sealed, place the jar in
cold water for a few minutes to break the seal.

Use vinyl stickers directly on the outer surface of the lunchbox or food jar.

Our lunchboxes are crafted from high-grade 304 food-safe stainless steel and have been independently tested to meet FDA food safety standards. We use 100% pure silicone, also independently tested and LFGB certified—the highest standard for food-safe silicone products.

Silicone can absorb odors from scented dishwashing liquids or tablets. To prevent this, we recommend using fragrance-free dishwashing liquids or tablets, often labeled as "eco products" and available at most supermarkets. If your silicone products develop a soapy smell or taste, try one of the following deep cleaning methods:

How to remove smells from silicone:

1. Vinegar + Baking Soda Soak

  • Mix equal parts hot water and vinegar in a sink or bowl.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda (it should fizz).
  • Let the silicone soak for a few hours or overnight.
  • Rinse and dry. Repeat if needed.

    2. Boil in Water + Vinegar
  • Fill a pot with 3/4 water and 1/4 vinegar (enough to cover the silicone).
  • Boil for 10-15 minutes, then rinse and dry.

Hero by name, hero by nature!!

This box along with the other one I purchased have been great. They keep the food cold and fresh. I have now started packing the lunchboxes the night before, even cut fruit, and they’re perfect the next day. This one gives me the option for leftovers which works well as the children aren’t big sandwich fans. Worth spending more on as these are all I use now.

Thermos

For the price I thought the thermos would be better. It does not hold heat that well...
Bought these to get away from silicone lunchboxes. The kids started to not eat their food from detergent smell lingering in the silicone and making their food dis-tasteful.
The stainless steel is non porous and stops that.

Hi Luke,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're pleased to hear you're enjoying the stainless steel lunch boxes and that they've helped solve the issue you were having with lingering detergent odours.

In terms of the insulated food jar, because it's designed to fit inside a lunch box, it is necessarily quite compact. Small insulated food jars with a wide opening have a much larger surface area relative to the amount of food they hold, which means they simply can't retain heat for as long as larger vacuum flasks. We've worked hard to maximise the insulation performance of our double-walled vacuum food jar, and when used correctly it will generally keep food warm for around 4–5 hours.

Heat retention also depends on a number of other factors, including how hot the food is to begin with, whether the food jar has been pre-heated, the type of food being packed (saucy foods perform much better than dry foods), whether it's opened before lunch, and even where it's stored throughout the morning.

We've put together a guide with our best tips for getting the most from the insulated food jar, including how to pre-heat it correctly and which foods work best: https://www.nudierudielunchbox.com.au/blogs/recipes/warm-lunches-made-easy-how-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-insulated-food-jar

We really appreciate you sharing your experience, as it gives us the opportunity to help other families get the best possible performance from their food jar.

Absolutely loved my hot and cold hero box.
So practical, great size and love all the two removable containers that come with this lunch box. We have been none stop using our lunch box since we purchased.
We have been trying to cut down on plastic, I can store my little ones food in their lunch boxes with peace of mind, reducing exposure to micro plastics and also helping the environment

Love it

It’s perfect for my 12 yo son. The insulated jar is actually the perfect size - I thought it would be too small and not substantial enough for a meal but it’s actually perfect and the rest of the lunchbox is great for all the other sides. Really amazing quality, solid steel but not heavy. We love it.

Great size and super user friendly

We’ve been using this for about a month now and can’t really fault it, it’s been great! Love that it is dishwasher friendly and the compartments are well sized. It’s still a bit big for our toddler’s food needs (it fits snacks for both of us) but it’s so easy to clean and we wanted him to be able to grow into it and take it to school. The only thing I’ve found tricky is trying to get the silicone seal back on the insulated food jar after cleaning

Silicone Lid NOT removable

I’ve spent weeks trying to reattach the silicone lid after hand washing it. After 1-2 weeks of literally attempting to push it back in, I’ve come onto the website to see if there’s any FAQ’s on how to reattach to find a review below stating , it’s actually not detachable? This isn’t clearly advised at all and so misleading. You should have clear steps on how each item must be cleaned. It does not clearly state do not remove the silicone from the jar.

Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback.

We’re not entirely sure whether you’re referring to the lunchbox lid itself or the food jar that comes with the Hot & Cold Hero Box, as they are designed differently:

* The silicone seal in the lunchbox lid is not removable, and this is outlined on the product page and in the cleaning FAQs.
* The silicone seal in the food jar *is* removable and should be taken out for cleaning as outlined on the product page.

If it’s the food jar seal you’ve been trying to reattach, there are step-by-step videos on both the Hero Box and food jar product pages that show how to do this. The key is placing the handle in the upright position and angling the seal in as you press it back into place — once you’ve seen it, it’s quite straightforward.

We do include cleaning guidance within the product description and FAQs, but we appreciate your feedback.

If you’re still having trouble, feel free to reach out to our team directly, we’re always happy to help.

Silicone Not Removable as Advertised

⭐️ 1 Star — Firm but honest review.

I purchased the Hot n Cold Hero Box (Pink) 2.0 – Stainless Steel Lunch Box with Insulated Food Jar and Snack Container after it was advertised that the silicone components were removable. Unfortunately, this was not the case — the silicone is not removable, which is very misleading and not aligned with the product description.

I also contacted customer service via email to clarify the issue but did not receive any response. Clear product information and reliable after-sales support are extremely important when purchasing items for children, so this was particularly disappointing.

I hope the company can improve both the accuracy of their product descriptions and their customer service moving forward.

Hi Chares, thank you for taking the time to leave your review.

We can confirm we have received your emails. We’re currently in our peak back-to-school period, which means response times are a little longer than usual due to a very high volume of enquiries. Your message is in our queue and will be replied to directly by our customer service team.

Regarding the product itself: the item referenced in your review is our Hot n Cold Hero Box. This model does not have a removable silicone seal, which is clearly stated on the product page. The Hero Box uses a non-removable, leak-resistant silicone seal that is poured and set into the lid during manufacturing. This design is intentional and necessary due to the domed lid structure that accommodates the insulated food jar — a removable seal would not remain secure in this area due to the additional weight.

It’s possible there may be some confusion, as our five-compartment (which I can see you have also purchased) and two-compartment lunch boxes are different models and do feature removable silicone seals. These differences are outlined in each product description.

We take product accuracy and customer support seriously and stand by the information provided on our website. Our team will be in touch with you privately to follow up on your enquiry.

Me and my son’s lunch box

I bought 2 sets of cold and hot lunch box for me and my son’s who start prep next year.

My son loves yoghurt and some soup, so I wanted him to enjoy those for his lunch. I enjoy the lunch box size which is not too big or too small and 3 big compartments can be divided to 4 with additional box container.

Although I feel a bit lazy to keep it in the fridge to put cold food in the jar before putting the cold stuff in. Also I feel a bit big to put this in a dishwasher as it occupies most of our dish washing space. So it would be great if the cover could be removable so that easy to wash in the dishwasher.

But overall, enjoy it!!

Good

I like but it is to hard to open even me struggling and the hot doesn’t last food was cold

To get the most out of the insulated food jar, it’s important to know that it’s designed specifically for wet foods with higher fluid content —things like soups, saucy pasta, or meals with broth or gravy. Because it’s a small insulated jar, it relies on this fluid content to keep food hot for up to 4 hours (or up to 5 hours if the outer lunchbox shell isn’t opened beforehand). Using solid foods like nuggets or plain rice will cause the heat to dissipate more quickly.

The jar will also naturally feel firmer to open after being filled with hot food because of the temperature difference between the inside and outside. A couple of tips to make this easier:

* Allow a little steam to escape before fully popping the lid.
* Leave the handle in the upright position for a minute or two to let pressure equalise and steam release through the two small holes built into the lid.

When used as recommended, the jar will keep food warm for the full duration.

If you ever need help with suggestions for meals that work really well in the jar, feel free to reach out—we’re always happy to help!

Great Quality & Smart Design

This lunch box is fantastic! It has a sturdy, stylish design and the perfect size for everyday meals. The lid seals tightly with no leaks, and the compartments keep the food nicely separated. It’s been super practical for my child, easy to open and close, and very simple to clean. I’m really happy with it☺️

Great lunchbox

A really good quality lunchbox with great containers / accessories.
I do recommend these lunchboxes but it’s worth noting they do get heavy when full and they take up a lot of space in the dishwasher.
